And The Envelope Please….

Monday, February 24th, 2014

Well, I guess it’s been official for awhile now. They’ve said “Move over Tangerine Tango! You’re no longer the star of the show.” (P.S. Aren’t they a year behind? Wasn’t Tangerine Tango oh so 2012?) Yes, even 2013′s Emerald Green has been told to step aside (and, I refuse to let go of either one of them!)

Turns out ( and I DO hope you’re sitting down) that while the Chinese say it’s the Year Of The Horse, the official word from the color Guru that is PANTONE is that this is the Year Of The Orchid. Have you bought into this yet? After all, Spring is less than one month away! Radiant Orchid Not just any orchid, mind you. The color should be referred to as “Radiant Orchid,” if you please.

You may already be a lover of this ‘lovely’ color. And, I agree that it looks great on a flower. But, what makes me happy are all the other colors we can interpret from this news. (Are you getting the sense that I’m not a big fan? Maybe I’ll feel better about it when the warm weather rolls back around SOON?????)

Of course, there are some gemstones that might help us comply even if we can’t all embrace the orchid that is “radiance.”  Take a look and see what you think.

And, for those of us who like to push the envelope just a little….                                       There now, can’t you just see the orchidness in these beauties?!

Alright, I tried.  In all fairness, I have actually hung onto a lavender, okay orchid, suit that I bought back in the 90′s. It still fits, looks like new and makes me feel amazing every time I put it on. Perhaps I’m suddenly glad it’s the year of the orchid. I can put some more mileage on that thing with the “but, it’s the Pantone Color of The Year!” excuse. (And, THEN it goes to the Consignment Shop once and for all!)

In all that you do, remember to …                                                                                    Always rock your full potential ~

Spring 2012 Fashion Trends

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

“Ehhh…verything’s coh…ming up roses…” It may have been back in ’59 when Gypsy Rose Lee hummed that tune, but 53 years later we’re having another affair with florals.

Have you been shopping lately? Spring 2012 Fashion designers are having a field day! Fitted or flowing matters not as long as we’re talking flowers.

And, while we’re on the subject, you’ll notice that it’s tough to wear flowers without wearing color. Harper’s Bazaar highlighted the blues in their recent expose of Spring 2012 runway style. Think of your average garden, though, and you realize that all color combos are acceptable.

Accessorizing this trend is simple.. especially with my Stratify Collection! While the clothing may be expensive (it’s really painful to look at the price tags), the jewelry I’ll show you is not. Every single one of these rings featuring genuine Tanzanite, Amethyst, Blue Topaz and Garnet is priced at under $100, and many are closer to $79. (You can click on the image to read more about it) Become your own designer! Jump on these styles while the trend is hot, but own looks that will long outlast today’s garden variety splurge.

Styling Your Full Potential ~

Looking Ahead At 2010

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

In my quest to find what’s-up for Spring, I’m spotting plenty of patterns – Patterns in leggings; patterns in skirts; patterns in sweaters and even sweater pants. Check out these knits from Missonimissoni1missoni2missoni3

Designers such as Betsey Johnson, Hot Kiss and BCBG are showing that even members of the younger generation are embracing patterns while, using various materials, they’re adding an eclectic mix to the mix. fashion05fashion03fashion04

Notice, among other things, all the neutrals in these depictions. Grays, blacks and browns are being embraced by many designers for the upcoming season including 3.1 Phillip Lim.

Phillip Lim1How beautiful are these brown dresses from his collection?! Notice there’s pattern here, too. But, it’s the color on which I’m focusing.

A Lot To Look Forward To

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

Spring 2010 promises to be a breath of fresh air as designers, following a year of somber uncertainty, once again embrace color, femininity, chic denim and smart accessories. The exciting news is that it’s wearable OFF the runway as well as on. Accessories are all shapes and sizes. Witness how the handbags pop against white. You tell me where the real focus is here.
And scarves? Don’t let anyone lead you to believe they’re put away for the winter. A newsboy cap, a not-so-neatly wrapped scarf, a strut in your stuff and you’re turning heads.
Colors for Spring 2010? Get ready for orange, cornflower blue, lots of white, loden green, pops of sunflower, khaki (of course), black (of course) and refreshing tones of teal.

In these times of uncertainty, we’re making the most of our accessories. And, when they can be used for more than one purpose, even better! So, learn what it means to clutch, and hold on for the ride!
Clutch bags aren’t just for evening wear and high heels anymore. With the bold hardware and fun colors we’re seeing for Fall 2009, you can wear them out for lunch, shopping and to the movies! Daytime into evening never looked so good!

The Mood In The House Of Fashion

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

Putting your finger on the pulse of fashion is easy when you have good sources. How do you gauge the mood of fashion today? Check out on-line magazines, newswire reports; celebrity blogs. Here, from the Associated Press – “Judging from the runway, tough times have energized the designers (on the Milan runways). The current preview showings for next winter, now at the midway point, are about real clothes for real women.” Although Prada had some strictly runway-fun with tall waders on the feet and gloves for hats during her most recent runway strut.

“After many seasons, where women seemed to be on a never ending vacation or out dancing every night, city clothes are back, epitomized by the pant suit. Very 1980′s, as when it made its debut on the Milan runway, but less androgynous……”

Haute (yes, HOT and HAUGHTY) Couture

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

Haute Couture, Its Meaning and Role in Fashion Today – Fashion History: “Haute Couture is a French phrase for high fashion. Couture means dressmaking, sewing, or needlework and haute means elegant or high, so the two combined imply excellent artistry with the fashioning of garments. The purchase of a haute couture model garment is at the top level of hand customised fashion design and clothing construction made by a couture design house.”
