Happy Vernal Equinox!!

Thursday, March 20th, 2014

Yes, Spring has finally sprung, and not a moment too soon! It seems like just yesterday everyone was making a list of New Year’s resolutions to get in shape. (To be honest, I think I make that resolution at the beginning of every month!) Now, though, we have no excuse not to get out there and soak up this great weather.

There’s no end to the ways you can improve your fitness these days from walking, gym workouts, trainers, videos and at-home programs to yoga, Pilates, cycling, running, golf, tennis…you get my drift!

Even with all of those options, are you finding it hard to get motivated? Let me share what often helps me. It might sound silly, but I love to look good in whatever I do. My motto is “always rock your full potential,” and that includes when I exercise. Nothing gets you out the door and on your way to a better you like a cute and flattering new top or super bright athletic shoes that say “Hello sunshine!”

Whether you’ve been dutiful with your fitness resolution (applause!) or just need a teensy little push to get going, I’ve found some hi-lo “gems” to refresh your workout wardrobe for that boot camp you’ve been needing! Click here for more inspiration … neat colors and cool clothing options for all of your TGI-Spring activities!

Always rock your full potential!

Sporty Chic

Sunday, April 22nd, 2012

My love of fitness has suddenly collided with my love of fashion! Oh happy day! And I don’t mean that we’re re-embracing sweat pants. (Pleeeease don’t go there!) No, I mean that the wonderful, powerful, attention-grabbing appeal of true athleticism has finally caught up with our love of everything stylish and chic.

I can’t tell you how many hours a week I spend in spandex! Sometimes it’s downright embarrassing. But, here’s how it happens. I wake up with the knowledge that at some point in my day, I’m going to work out. Be it tennis, treadmill, tummy-work, tumbling, trampoline …. well, you never know …. I just know one thing’s for certain, I’m going to need flexible clothes.

My best laid plans have me reading the paper over coffee and some form of bran cereal (again, best laid plans) with a work-out soon to follow. Before you know it, the dog needs walking; laundry needs folding; UPS needs a signature; my flowers need a drink; the phone needs answering; I forgot to buy half and half !!; checks need cashing; bills need paying … It’s 3:30 in the afternoon and I’M STILL WEARING SPANDEX!

Perhaps this is not exactly what designers had in mind when they put their Sporty Chic silhouettes on the Spring 2012 runways. The gym is one thing, The Four Seasons is another. But, I still love the fact that now my double white-striped black leggings only call for a pair of Jimmy Choos, and I’m good to go!

In the most practical of athletic mindsets, we must accessorize accordingly. The littlest of bling is necessary. (But then again, who said anything about necessities?) What do you think? Some Pink Morganite leverbacks for comfort and color? Or, perhaps some Citrine studs? There’s always that go-to pair of Barepani London Blue Topaz to kick it up a notch, or the White Sapphire studs for flair. (Click the photos for details)

These don’t get in the way of your leg lift/kick-backs; they add color to your otherwise “glowing” make-up-less face; they fill in the pierce of your otherwise adorned earlobes; and, if nothing else, they scream Sporty Chic. It’s every girl’s dream come true… an invitation to be fit, fabulous and comfortable. I say, let the games begin!

Take Time Out for YOU

Monday, June 7th, 2010

I made a decision yesterday about this new routine I’m going to adopt. Taking time out for me! Not a lot of time, but its going to be dedicated. I’ll call it my weekly appointment with wellness!

Just once a week, my 30-minute morning workout will be followed by: a 10-minute hair mask; a deep cleansing facial with gentle exfoliation; and a 30-minute teeth-whitening touch-up. (These cucumbers aren’t required, though they’re very good for you both internally and externally.)

Our daily intentions may be good….. thoroughly clean off our makeup every night; floss every day; brush our hair 100 strokes before bed (NOT!), but it’s easy to let things slide. THEN, if we don’t get enough sleep, and the stresses and frustrations of the week get us down, this lack of care really shows. And, the effects over time become harder and harder to undo.

Perhaps a goal of once-a-week “me time” is like Meditation. It’s good for the soul, and it puts us back in harmony (just like a good glass of wine!) I’ll let you know how it goes. I’ve already made my ‘appointment’ for next week.

Summer Workouts

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

If you’re getting back into your workout routine now that summer’s coming (and those bathing suits and shorts are looming), first ~ congratulate yourself. You’ve made a wise decision for both your health and your self-confidence. After every work out, I give myself mental gold stars! It takes discipline, as you know, but you always feel better for it.
A couple of things to keep in mind:
~ Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water! That is important advice year-round, but in the intense summer heat your body sweats even more, attempting to regulate your body temperature. It’s important to replace those lost fluids.
~ Headaches are not uncommon hours, if not minutes, after strenuous exercise. I find that alternating water with a sports drink during tennis matches or after a long run can help me avoid them. Replacing lost electrolytes with your favorite flavored sports drink can keep those headaches at bay.
~ Prior to a morning workout, get a little bit of food in your system… an egg, a protein shake, some yogurt with fruit…this will help fuel your system and keep your blood sugar levels from dropping. Your workouts will also be more effective, because you’ll have more energy for the duration. (Wait 1/2 hour after eating before beginning your exercise)
~ Pick up the latest issue of FIRST FOR WOMEN, the May 24th Edition with Denise Austin on the cover. There are some great ideas for maximizing your workouts and staying on track. Yours in Good Health ~ Judy
