And The Envelope Please....
And The Envelope Please....

Well, I guess it's been official for awhile now. They've said "Move over Tangerine Tango! You're no longer the star of the show." (P.S. Aren't they a year behind? Wasn't Tangerine Tango oh so 2012?) Yes, even 2013's Emerald Green has been told to step aside (and, I refuse to let go of either one of them!) Turns out ( and I DO hope you're sitting down) that while the Chinese say it's the Year Of The Horse, the official word from the color Guru that is PANTONE is that this is the Year Of The Orchid. Have you bought into this yet? After all, Spring is less than one month away! Not just any orchid, mind you. The color should be referred to as "Radiant Orchid,"?if you please. You may already be a lover of this 'lovely' color. And, I agree that it looks great on a flower. But, what makes me?happy are all the other?colors we can interpret from this news. (Are you getting the sense that I'm not a big fan? Maybe I'll feel better about it when the warm weather rolls back around SOON?????) Of course, there are some gemstones that might help us comply even if we can't all embrace the orchid that is "radiance."? Take a look and see what you think. ROSE QUARTZ????????????????? PURPLE OPAL????????????? LAVENDER QUARTZ And, for those of us who like to push the envelope just a little.... ????????????????????????????????????? There now, can't you just see the orchidness in these beauties?! RHODONITE??????????????????? BLUE LACE AGATE??????????? RUTILATED QUARTZ Alright, I tried. ?In all fairness, I have actually hung onto a lavender, okay orchid, suit that I bought back in the 90's. It still fits, looks like new and makes me feel amazing every time I put it on. Perhaps I'm suddenly glad it's the year of the orchid. I can put some more mileage on that thing with the "but, it's the Pantone Color of The Year!" excuse. (And, THEN it goes to the Consignment Shop once and for all!) In all that you do, remember to ...??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Always rock your full potential ~ My best ~ Judy

Nature as Art
Nature as Art

As we countdown to the premier of JOYA by Judy Crowell (9 more days! Jan. 21 at 5pm ET!) I?ve been asked by many of you where I drew inspiration for the pieces in my collection.? Well ? from everywhere! My animal pieces in particular draw upon animal symbolism in jewelry that historians have recorded as far back as ancient Egypt.? We?ve all seen a scarab in jewelry at one time or another ? right?!? Here?s a gorgeous ancient ring style that is both rustic and elegant at the same time. [caption id="attachment_1963" align="alignnone" width="150"] Galerie Golconda Ancient Egyptian Scarab Ring[/caption] Another ancient jewelry style from the Etruscan era entailed carvings of small animals in pendants, called bullas, or mythological creatures such as winged lions as seen here. [caption id="attachment_1964" align="alignnone" width="150"] Etruscan Ring, Museum of Modern Art[/caption] For the most part, symbolism in jewelry evolved over time and with different cultures to reflect mythical, religious and spiritual meaning. In more recent times, these symbols (and animals) have been added to reflect a bit of whimsy and fun. For JOYA By Judy Crowell, I?ve created two lovely pieces ? a Serpent Pendant and a Turtle Bracelet. [caption id="attachment_1966" align="alignnone" width="150"] JOYA By Judy Crowell Drusy Turtle Link Toggle Bracelet[/caption] [caption id="attachment_1965" align="alignnone" width="150"] JOYA By Judy Crowell Carved Gemstone Snake Pendant[/caption] These animals offer their own symbolism story across the ages. At different time periods, the serpent has represented wisdom and eternity and even renewal as skin is shed and growth occurs. And, as a Native American ?Totem? animal, the turtle symbolizes both the grounding quality of earth energy and the magic of the mystical. Using Turtle energy can help you achieve real balance in your life and your spirit so that you don't get "stuck in the mud!" I like the idea that our personal jewelry can be an emblem for positivity in our lives as well as being elegant and a lot of fun to wear. Always rock your full potential! ~Judy

Huddle Up!
Huddle Up!

During football season, these concepts are all too familiar: tackle, rush, defense, toss, tight-end, blocking, kick, forward, punt, pass and interception. (yawn!) BUT, Style Mavens unite!! You, too, can embrace the rest of the season with a strategy that requires no trades and has nothing to do with fantasy. Huddle up! It's GAME DAY, so let's PLAY!! TACKLE the season with gusto. Color is in the spotlight, so don't shy away. Embrace these! The colors of garnet and raspberry, emerald and clover, turquoise and ocean are hot hot hot! So, RUSH to your closet for those hidden gems you've been ignoring. Even if you don't dress in color head-to-toe, at least think 'color' when choosing jewelry and scarves.? You'll feel younger and more refreshed wearing pretty tones during these shortened, drab days of fall and winter. In your DEFENSE, change is terribly tough. But, if things don't fit, don't fight it.... TOSS them! You never feel your best in things too baggy OR too TIGHT-end (okay, that was a stretch),? things too short OR too young! Why do you think God invented daughters and consignment shops?! Give! Donate! Sell! Get them out of your closet! HUT HUT! HUT! Remember when color-blocking was all the rage? Well, now we're BLOCKING with leather and lace. Dresses, jackets and tops this year are artfully accented. Add them to your repertoire. Never has daytime-to-dinner looked so good. KICK it up a notch with an idea borrowed from your man. The suit! No wonder he's never late in the morning. He doesn't have to think!@f23! The pants match the jacket match the shoes match the belt match the coffee.....? Aaaand, he's out the door!? Now, for women they're baaaaaaack! (...thankfully, designed a lot more creatively (and femininely) than those we wore in the 80's. Phew!) Be FORWARD thinking and don't let the season PASS without a cool pair of boots. Nothing says smart and chic or comfort and style like boots. Leggings@f24 Perfect for boots. Skinny jeans@f25 MADE for boots. Skirts with tights@f26 Boots! Dresses with fishnets@f27 I think you get the idea. Pair them with boooooots!!!!! Still not sure what to wear@f28 Just PUNT! You can't go too terribly wrong with the relaxed rules of fashion these days. Just look at Miley Cyrus. Uh, .... yeah. On second thought (I think I've just found my final football analogy) ... now THERE'S a case in need of a serious style INTERCEPTION! Well?!? I'm just sayin'. Remember to ... Always rock your full potential! Hut! Hut! Clap! BREAK! Grunt! Now, go get 'em! (especially those boots!!) ~ Judy

Looking Ahead
Looking Ahead

Okay, kids!! If you haven't heard, we're already looking ahead to Spring of 2014. (You know how we designer-slash-fashionistas are! Always anticipating our next move) So, here's the scoop... the skinny... the deal-e-o..... What we'll be seeing on the covers of fashion magazines in the coming months (I doubt they'll even wait for the holidays to become a distant, yet wonderful, memory) are the beautiful people in fashions-of-color ~ delicious hues called FREESIA (think sunflower fields), PALOMA (the yummiest of grays) and CAYENNE (you guessed it, Spice Girl, as in red pepper). The PANTONE Color Institute says ?("Mother May I?") stock up on camel, ocean blue, orange (yes, AGAIN!! (thank goodness) it's my favorite! (*See new logo of my jewelry collection here WooHoo!!Ha! I digress),.... sky blue, seafoam (next year called 'hemlock'), and glorious orchid. How fun! Let the rainbow glow, and remember to..... Always rock your full potential ~ Judy

A Thousand Tears
A Thousand Tears

How is it that even my tears don't seem like enough to properly express this sadness@f15 Isn't there something even more elevated than tears? How is it that I can't ask her to endure even one more night@f16 Isn't there something to tell me I'm wrong or I'm right? How is it that I knew months ago we didn't have much time, so I sat down back then and wrote her a poem@f17 Isn't there something in those actions? I don't have the answers to my questions.... I only have my heart. And, just maybe that is something. ?At Heaven's Gate, Brie, please don't wait Go run and roll and sniff For now your eyes, they see again Your joints no longer stiff We'll meet again someday, my friend Our routine we'll repeat That bark, that wag, that lick I'll know The circle then complete Rest in peace, little girl of mine Not sure there will be another For you brought out the best in me The only one who called me 'mother.' What Are You Wearing@f14
What Are You Wearing@f14

If it's 10 pm when you read this, the answer is probably "your p.j.s." And, if it's 10 am, your answer might range from spandex to a suit! But, I don't mean what are you wearing NOW, like right this MINUTE ..... I mean jewelry-wise, help me out, what are you wearing@f4 What do you grab to accessorize@f5 And, what is your jewelry box missing@f6 I ask because my jewelry line will debut this fall, and I want to know what you like. Demure@f7 Bold@f8 Silver@f9 Gold@f10 New@f11 Old@f12 Warm@f13 Sorry. If you lead a life on the run (kids, travel, business, PTA, volunteer, pet-rescue, fund-raising) or a life of leisure (golf, tennis, crosswords, travel, books, grandchildren), jewelry is sometimes that last-minute, grab what you wore yesterday kind of routine. But, I have found lately (being a woman who leads both of those lives) that when I put a teeny-bit more time into my closet the night before, not thinking only about what I'm going to wear cloth-wise, but how I'm going to accessorize that cloth, that I end up feeling prettier, more confident and more 'finished' than when I don't. I'm on both Facebook and Twitter, and plan to keep you updated as to when and where my jewelry can be found. I can't wait to hear your feedback, and I can't wait to see pictures of you wearing it! You know my motto ... (and soon, it will mean even more!) Always 'rock' your full potential ~ Judy

January 31st: Not so "New Year" Anymore
January 31st: Not so "New Year" Anymore

Resolutions? Yes, not to feel achy, feverish and down-right blah. Head hurts, muscles are sore, nose is red and even things hot... a bath, mint tea, my husband... aren't doing the trick. I'm miserable. Paul left for Minnesota again this morning after buying these. (I can't even believe I'm showing you this. I am a fright!!) Yes, he went out and bought a 25-pack ("Twenty-five??!!" He said it was all they had) of these face masks to wear on his flight back to ShopNBC today. I would imagine he'll fly home in one on Sunday all chipper and cured of his cold just so we can turn around on Tuesday and fly, wearing them of course (after all, we have 25!!), to the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show. (We'll be the ones on the plane looking like we really ought to be quarantined) Who knows, maybe we'll start a Fashion Trend for Flyers. Perhaps wearing them even ought to be a law! And, with all of this down time on my hands, I think I'll get out the markers and start drawing. A nice set of red lips would look good on my mask, don't you think@f3 (Or, should I put them on Paul's? ha) That'll let the world know that I know I look ridiculous, but that I'm gladly doing my part to maintain a germ-free zone. Other passengers may even ask if we have extras. (Suddenly, 25 doesn't sound like nearly enough) Just remember, even in a face mask... Always Rock Your Full Potential ~ ~ Judy

The Best Laid Plans
The Best Laid Plans

If you agree that a wedding is memorable as MUCH because of the mishaps as because of the bride's beautiful gown, then perhaps the same can be applied to my recent Holiday party. Centered around the date of the annual boat parade, my party had been scheduled for months. Last year the boats swung right by our house ... so creative, so pretty, so festive... I thought my Kappa colleagues would love it. So, the night is planned; the evites have been sent; the menu has been selected; we're ready to go. The night before the party, my husband is cooking me salmon on the grill. It's a beautiful night. I look outside and here comes a decorated boat. How PRETTY! "Look Paul, here comes another one!"?Wait. What's going on??? He says, "Come eat while it's hot." I say, "You don't think....." "No. Don't worry," he's says. "I'm sure it's a parade from another township." Just to make sure, we double-check on line. Sure enough, OUR township parade is definitely scheduled for the following night. Whew! The next night, all the ladies show up with their husbands and dates. It's an even nicer night than the one before. Everyone's dressed up and enjoying people they haven't seen in forever. The boat parade start time, 7:15, comes and goes. 'Ah well, they must still be lining up.' 7:30, 7:45 ... still no sign of a light much less a boat! Now I'm starting to worry (and, like any nervous bride who wants it to be perfect, I'm getting mad!). "Hey everybody," I stall. " Let's get that shot of all of us holding our children's books that we've collected for charity!!" Okay, well... that was good for a few minutes. Now it's 8:00, 8:15, 8:30..... NO BOATS, NO PARADE, NO NOTHING! Well, that's not quite true... somewhere out there along the beach, someone was shooting off fireworks. Woohoo!! (Small consolation for a night completely planned around a PARADE!) Talk about mud on my face (or is it 'in your eye@f0') SOMEwhere, there was mud. And, aside from the skinny string of Christmas lights on the bow-railing of our boat, my party people got totally ripped off! The good news? Friends are incredibly forgiving. The food was good, the children will get books for Christmas, and .... there's always next year@f1!@f2 Styling Your Full Potential ~ Judy

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy

Not every blog has to be big news, right? Sometimes it?s fun to just embrace the moments when life is grand!!!!? Paul and I re-watched ?Swingers? the other night: Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau, Heather Graham ? and got in-the-mood for some swing dancing. We then had the opportunity to see Big Bad Voodoo Daddy (who were featured in the film) perform LIVE. Do you know that all of the original members (up to 9 of them) have been together for 19 years!?? They?re obviously doing something right, and making a lot of people happy with their music. (Click their pic to watch the dance scene from the movie) We couldn?t stay in our seats. One song was even better than the next! At the end of the night? You would have witnessed two tired (and sweaty) pups. I?d definitely burned off the calories from dessert! ;) Styling Your Full Potential ~ Judy

Quick Update
Quick Update

I love to blog about fashion and jewelry. I even slip in a blog from time to time about beauty or travel. But, this one's just a little bit different. As a courtesy to my friends and followers, I wanted to give a quick update to let you know that I have left my position at JTV as Style & Trend Expert. JTV is a delightful company with an extremely talented staff. I had the best time working alongside the Hosts and Buying team to bring 'Stratify' to all of you. Your positive feedback made me incredibly proud of what we accomplished. While that position came to an end, my love of jewelry and gemstone exploration never will. In fact, Paul and I are traveling to Brazil next month to film at a Drusy mine! I get to be both 'talent' and 'videographer.' Now THAT will be a good trick. (Okay, maybe I'll put him on camera, too. ;)) You know I can never leave the shopping channel industry, right? So, stay tuned for the next chapter! Meanwhile, please keep in touch with me on Facebook here: www.facebook.com/judycrowellstyle and on Twitter here: (www.twitter.com/judycrowell). Have You Heard Of It?
Have You Heard Of It?

Morganite! Do you know this mineral? It's currently the number 1 selling gemstone in my "Stratify" Jewelry Collection on JTV. It's related to, believe it or not, the Emerald.... and the Aquamarine.... Even though their colors are completely different, they are all from the Beryl family of gems due to their similar trace elements and chemical make up. Morganite is a spectacular looking gemstone displaying the most beautiful color of peachy pink tones. It's name was changed from "Pink Beryl" to "Morganite" back in 1911 when it was named after the famous financier J.P. Morgan. He was not only a rock hound and collector of gems, but he invested much of his banking fortune into researching the types and whereabouts of gemstones worldwide. If you're at all intrigued and want to see more.....ganite? (ba dum bum), tune into to JTV, Jewelry Television, this Tuesday, Sept. 11th? from 7-8pm ET. We'll be broadcasting our first fully devoted hour in "Stratify" to all Morganite jewelry! It's going to be busy! See you then. Styling Your Full Potential ~ Judy

Sporty Chic
Sporty Chic

My love of fitness has suddenly collided with my love of fashion! Oh happy day! And I don't mean that we're re-embracing sweat pants. (Pleeeease don't go there!) No, I mean that the wonderful, powerful, attention-grabbing appeal of true athleticism has finally caught up with our love of everything stylish and chic. I can't tell you how many hours a week I spend in spandex! Sometimes it's downright embarrassing. But, here's how it happens. I wake up with the knowledge that at some point in my day, I'm going to work out. Be it tennis, treadmill, tummy-work, tumbling, trampoline .... well, you never know .... I just know one thing's for certain, I'm going to need flexible clothes. My best laid plans have me reading the paper over coffee and some form of bran cereal (again, best laid plans) with a work-out soon to follow. Before you know it, the dog needs walking; laundry needs folding; UPS needs a signature; my flowers need a drink; the phone needs answering; I forgot to buy half and half !!; checks need cashing; bills need paying ... It's 3:30 in the afternoon and I'M STILL WEARING SPANDEX! Perhaps this is not exactly what designers had in mind when they put their Sporty Chic silhouettes on the Spring 2012 runways. The gym is one thing, The Four Seasons is another. But, I still love the fact that now my double white-striped black leggings only call for a pair of Jimmy Choos, and I'm good to go! In the most practical of athletic mindsets, we must accessorize accordingly. The littlest of bling is necessary. (But then again, who said anything about necessities?) What do you think? Some Pink Morganite leverbacks for comfort and color? Or, perhaps some Citrine studs? There's always that go-to pair of Barepani London Blue Topaz to kick it up a notch, or the White Sapphire studs for flair. (Click the photos for details) These don't get in the way of your leg lift/kick-backs; they add color to your otherwise "glowing" make-up-less face; they fill in the pierce of your otherwise adorned earlobes; and, if nothing else, they scream Sporty Chic. It's every girl's dream come true... an invitation to be fit, fabulous and comfortable. I say, let the games begin! Styling Your Full Potential ~ Judy

The Return Of The Earring ~ Spring 2012
The Return Of The Earring ~ Spring 2012

I've always referred to it as the most intimate piece of jewelry you wear, because it's selected to be closest to your beautiful face. Now, designers are taking the importance of them to a whole new level with the Return Of The Earring for 2012. Soulful and sexy; flirty and colorful; movin' and groovin,' these dazzlers are turning (and framing) heads! Some of us are thinking, "Wait just a minute. What's so new? We've been down this road before." Yes, but isn't it fun?! Fashion loves to reinvent itself, and WE love when it does! Some of the most famous faces in history were known for their glamorous lobes. It's nice to know it's 'cool' all over again. So, what do you say we do a little shopping? If you want to duplicate the 'looks,' you've got to know where to go to find them. While my Stratify Collection isn't on the runway........... (yet!), I do have some great styles that would fit the bill for this current trend.? Take a look at these beauties, and see if? the colors, the gems, or the dangle styles strike your fancy. If so, click on the earring to see all the details. Happy shopping! Spring 2012 Fashion Trends
Spring 2012 Fashion Trends

Ehhh...verything's coh...ming up roses..." It may have been back in '59 when Gypsy Rose Lee hummed that tune, but 53 years later we're having another affair with florals.? Have you been shopping lately? Spring 2012 Fashion designers are having a field day! Fitted or flowing matters not as long as we're talking flowers. And, while we're on the subject, you'll notice that it's tough to wear flowers without wearing color. Harper's Bazaar highlighted the blues in their recent expose of Spring 2012 runway style. Think of your average garden, though, and you realize that all color combos are acceptable. Accessorizing this trend is simple.. especially with my Stratify Collection! While the clothing may be expensive (it's really painful to look at the price tags), the jewelry I'll show you is not. Every single one of these rings featuring genuine Tanzanite, Amethyst, Blue Topaz and Garnet is priced at under $100, and many are closer to $79. (You can click on the image to read more about it) Become your own designer! Jump on these styles while the trend is hot, but own looks that will long outlast today's garden variety splurge. Bright Spots
Bright Spots

Noticing a trend here?! Suddenly in the mood for a creamsicle? Or, perhaps another glass of orange juice? The Pantone Color Institute has donned this, Tangerine Tango, 'the 2012 Color Of The Year.' It's a vibrant, refreshing, BLAST of color with so much potential. Paired with lime or royal or (here's another Pantone fave) solar yellow, you almost can't go wrong with it. Of course, you know me, never one to pass up an opportunity to talk about how fashion relates to? jewelry.... I thought I'd make some suggestions as to how you can wear this color other than in fabric. I realize not everyone desires that red flair of attention, so here are some pretty pieces that can add that perk-me-up to your current wardrobe of navies, grays and whites. And, of course, your LBD could be completely transformed with these orange and red combos. Click on any of the photos for more information on where they are available. I'm excited that, while black and white are always in-season, designers everywhere are thoroughly embracing the color-wheel. (I just painted my new kitchen "Audubon Russet," and it's so refreshingly fun!) :) Styling Your Full Potential ~ Judy

Around The World In An Hour
Around The World In An Hour

After developing my photos from our recent trip to Tucson, I realized how many countries we had visited in a single afternoon! The South American tent took us to Peru. The Madagascar tent showed us interesting fossils and the most beautiful Labradorite? And yes, we went to Africa and Australia as well. Not only do we have the opportunity to see the latest cuts or colors of beautiful gemstones, like these faceted opals from one of our favorite suppliers to Jewelry Television, but we come to appreciate the laborious process of searching for these treasures. You may tune in to a shopping channel and feel like you see an abundance of beautiful baubles. But from this perspective, we're reminded that it takes many months (in some cases, years) to mine and sort them; cut and polish them; design and set them? into magnificent pieces of wearable art. The annual Tucson Show is not the end of the journey... it's just the beginning. But, it IS the culmination of a lot of hard work! Styling Your Full Potential ~ Judy

Tucson Talk
Tucson Talk

Tucson, Arizona is just buzzing with enthusiasm and excitement every year at this time. The first week in February, it becomes the site of the largest gem and mineral show in the world. Vendors and buyers alike are here on a quest for new material, uniquely cut stones and large parcels of Mother Nature's latest creations. The customer is always on our minds. (Of course, if one happens to come home with a selfishly bought new bauble, well, that's just a well-earned reward for all the hard work that can extend into the wee hours) My recent post on Facebook generated 35 good guesses as to what this pretty new purple-veined material might be. So far, though, no one has accurately identified it. So, the game is still ON! Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? A huge bonus of our annual trek to Tucson is, of course ... ...? the food! We can't seem to veer from our favorite foods at our favorite restaurants. There's just nothing like that table- side guacamole at La Fuentes or the entertaining Cowboy atmosphere of Lil' Abners. And the views@f6 Well, there's no question. It's just a little slice of heaven. Styling Your Full Potential ~ Judy

Calling All February Babies... And Then Some
Calling All February Babies... And Then Some

If you February Girls haven't embraced your birthstone up 'til now, I have a funny feeling the worm is about to turn. WOW!! So, here's the scoop.... African Amethyst is known for its deep, intense grape color tending to fluoresce red tones (Brazilian amethyst tends to fluoresce blue). The problem is, when you get into the larger carat weights, it can appear too dark, almost black (not attractive). The material we sourced for this ring (nearly 6 carats of genuine African Amethyst) is incredible. Day after tomorrow (Wed. 01/10/12) (obviously, this particular BLOG is time-sensitive), you can STEAL it (for UNDER $120!) on Jewelry Television.... but, it won't even be on their website until then. I am so excited about this that I hated to wait any longer to tell you. (I'll probably get myself in trouble revealing it too soon) Anyway, we'll introduce it at midnight tomorrow night (Tuesday night into Wednesday), and there are only 675 of them (FOR THE WHOLE COUNTRY)! Good luck! (Oh, and did I mention that the yellow gemstones are genuine yellow sapphires????) Scrub-A-Dub Dub
Scrub-A-Dub Dub

When was the last time you cleaned your jewelry? We take the time to clean our clothes, our houses, our dogs (don't ask me why I thought of that one... probably because my Springer "Brie" just got a bath), but cleaning our jewelry@f4 Who has time@f5 The truth is that all jewelry requires TLC for long-term wear and lasting beauty. My advice for Storage: Take advantage of the individual compartments in a jewelry box, divided drawers or a travel pouch. Gemstones can scratch one another if they all get jumbled together. And, if you?re not careful to keep pieces separated from one another, they can even scratch the gold or silver settings. My advice for Cleaning: Don?t overdo it, and don?t use steam cleaning or ultra-sonic cleaners. All you really need is a soft, lint-free cloth. That should do a fine job of keeping it free from surface dust and dirt on a daily basis. Should you find that it has dulled from accumulated soap or hand lotions, just swish it in a bath of? mild dishwashing liquid and warm water. Rinse, and make sure you always dry it well ... away from the drain. Keep in mind that in some cases, like with my Stratify and Blooming Jewels Collections on JTV, some gemstones are set with an adhesive instead of with prongs. (This is common practice with opaques or cabochons like turquoise or lapis) Therefore, it?s smart not to leave your jewelry in water or a liquid jewelry cleaner for an extended period of time.
